Dependence Forming Medications (DFM) Service

Prescribed strong painkillers? Want another way?

Long term use of strong painkillers for chronic pain is physically and emotionally demanging.

Opioid painkillers are very useful for people experiencing acute pain (for up to 12 weeks) or cancer pain, and for end of life care.

When used for Chronic Pain these medicines are far less effective at treating the pain and can cause a wide range of unwanted effects.

Here's a few of the ways DFM Team can help:

  • 1:1 work to improve the quality of your life.
  • Explore self management techniques for pain.
  • Structured Well-being, anxiety and pain management workshops.
  • Informal support networks and discussions both online and in person.
